Supported hardware and storefronts
Match the exact device name before comparing prices. An Xbox One and an Xbox Series console belong to different supported generations for this game. Likewise, a Nintendo Switch 2 listing should not be treated as an original Nintendo Switch release.
| Hardware | Announced availability | Purchase check |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Supported | Confirm the PS5 product and your store region |
| Xbox Series X|S | Supported | Confirm digital access or a disc-compatible Series X for physical media |
| Windows PC | Xbox on PC, Battle.net and Steam | Compare hardware, security requirements and store account |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Supported | Check the Switch 2 listing; do not assume original Switch compatibility |
| PlayStation 4 / Xbox One | Not supported | A previous Call of Duty license does not add MW4 support |
Choosing a PC store
Choose the storefront where you intend to manage ownership, downloads and support. Before paying, confirm that you can access the account and that the game page identifies the correct edition. Check your receipt before attempting a second purchase on another store.
Xbox Play Anywhere applies to qualifying purchases through the Xbox console or Xbox on PC store, according to Activision’s support notes. That is a specific purchase benefit. It should not be generalized into a claim that a Steam, Battle.net or PlayStation purchase includes all other versions.
Online play, split-screen and accounts
Activision Support lists two-player split-screen Multiplayer for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It does not list PC or Switch 2 split-screen in the checked answer. The same support page notes online console subscription requirements and possible phone-number requirements; check the current conditions for your device.
Cross-play, cross-progression and owning multiple copies answer different questions. We have not verified a complete launch cross-play settings matrix for this page. Do not treat account linking, shared progression or Xbox Play Anywhere as proof of a feature on every device.
A practical purchase checklist
- Start with the device you own, then verify the exact supported model.
- On PC, compare the official minimum and recommended hardware before choosing a storefront.
- Check local price, taxes, subscription conditions and refund terms in the official store.
- Read access benefits separately from edition extras; the more expensive edition is not required for every digital pre-order benefit.
- Use the store’s own displayed release information for your entitlement and region.
Frequently asked questions
Will COD MW4 run on PS4 or Xbox One?
No. The official announcement says those consoles are not supported.
Does one purchase include Steam and Battle.net?
No such universal entitlement was verified. Check the exact storefront license. The specific Xbox Play Anywhere benefit should not be extended to unrelated stores.
